For many, holiday family gatherings are not what you see on commercials or TV.
May bring up a lot of pain, hurt, sadness, triggers, mixed with joy, happiness, and love
That’s the beauty of emotions all are valid, all are welcomed, and all can’t be felt without the other
If this is you, I’m thinking of you and sending you much love and strength this holiday
Kids: If you have kids prepare them for the noise, change in routine, triggers of social anxiety, bed time, food, etc. ask them questions and validate feelings about what they are uncomfortable with, provide tools to support them ahead of time
Drink water: Just a little dehydration impacts your Energy, focus and mood. We tend to forget to drink water in cold months and when busy. Fill up your water bottle and drink half your body weight
Energy: Manage your energy, reflect on your thoughts. If they are “Inner bully/Critic” thoughts re frame them as you would talk to a loved one
Let go: We can have unrealistic expectations of family and with ourselves (I have to have perfect dinner decor, dish, sides, etc.) Forget the dish and just bring YOU! Let it go and enjoy the day. Laugh, play and try to have fun. Other people’s opinions’ are just that, NOT facts. You will be amazed how just that can help release stress to love more
Celebrate you: Show yourself some gratitude. Recognizing your strengths, small and big wins, appreciating the individual who you are is an important part of living with gratitude.
